The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Mohammed Husseini Gumel, has commended the state branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) for the peaceful conduct of its protests against the current economic hardships in the country.

Gumel made the commendation in an interview he granted to newsmen shortly after the protests on Tuesday in Kano.

He said the exercise was “seamless as the protesters conducted themselves in orderliness and respect for all government officials led by the Head of Service.”

The commissioner said the police, other law enforcement officials and the general public were all appreciative of the peaceful conduct of the protests.

The NLC officials kick-started their protest march at the Kano Race Course, rallied through Lodge Road and terminated at the Government House, where they were received by the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa.

During the event, the Chairman of the state branch of the NLC, Kabiru Inuwa, reiterated the union’s commitment to the people’s well-being.

He called on Governor Abba Yusuf to urge the president to address the suffering of the people.
