The Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, said it arrested a motorist identified as Lucky Omomeyen, for allegedly trying to hit its officer after he was arrested for violating trafficking rules.

DAILY POST reports that the State Sector Commander of the Corp, Paul Okpe, disclosed this to newsmen in Benin City.

Okpe said the driver committed the offence on April 19, 2024, and was arrested six days after committing the offence.

He said the driver, who drove a Toyota Camry car was flagged down by operatives of the command who were on patrol, but instead of stopping, he attempted to hit the officer with his car.

Okpe added that to avoid being hit, the officer jumped and hung on the Toyota Camry.

According to him, the officer was on patrol at Ramat Park carrying out normal duties when a motorist driving a Toyota Camry was flagged down, in the process, the driver nearly hit the operative and he had to jump on the burnet to avoid being hit.

“Instead of him to park properly but because he had ulterior motives, he drove with the official hanging on his burnet for some distance before the officer was able to get down after the vehicle slowed down for traffic, but the driver was able to escape”.

“The driver was said to have manoeuvred his vehicle and escaped arrest but was later arrested several days after the incident”, he said.

The Sector Commander said the arrested driver has been handed over to the police and has since been charged to court.
