Lyon midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles has admitted he wants Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season.

Maitland-Niles debuted for the Gunners in 2014, having come through the Hale End Academy.

As his opportunities were reduced at the Emirates, he went out on loan to West Brom, Roma and Southampton before moving permanently to Lyon as a free agent in 2023.

Despite his departure, Maitland-Niles still has affection for his boyhood club.

In an interview with The Athletic, he said: “It’s my boyhood club; I still support them and look out for them. I’m hoping they are going to win the league this year. I’d love to see them do it. I have no envy in my heart at all.”
