Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said the club’s decision to appoint Omar Berrada as their new chief executive is their ‘best January signing’.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe made his first major move since buying a 25 per cent stake in Man United on Sunday by poaching Berrada from Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Berrada had been part of the hierarchy at Man City since 2011.

“I spoke to some guys who were at Manchester City,” Ferdinand told his FIVE podcast on Monday.

“They cannot believe we have got him. They think he has done so much in the game at different levels and has been successful and that it is a really good, sharp signing for us.

“I think this could potentially be one of our best January signings. In the current climate we are in now, especially.”
