Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has admitted he wished he signed Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

Rice has become one of Mikel Arteta’s most important players since arriving from West Ham last summer.

The England midfielder has featured in all 36 of the Gunners’ Premier League games.

On Thursday, Rice was shortlisted for the Premier League player of the year award.

Arsenal faced competition from Manchester City in the battle to sign Rice and Ten Hag has suggested he wished his own club were also involved in the transfer tussle.

When asked about Rice as a player and whether he would have liked him in his United squad, Ten Hag said: “He’s a very good player. He would absolutely have fitted here.”
