Goods and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in an early morning fire incident that razed an entire building in Otukpo, the headquarters of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Onyangede Street in Otukpo.

DAILY POST gathered that the razed building which was a residential apartment had a barber’s and tailor’s shops attached to it.

An eyewitness, Iliya Hassan who spoke with DAILY POST recounts that the fire outbreak was caused by a power surge.

“The moment there was a power supply in the early hours of today a spark from a wire that was disconnected in the building wall led to the fire outbreak.

“All our efforts to put off the light were not successful but we succeeded in retrieving a few items from some shops.

“Fortunately, no lives were lost in the fire incident.”
