Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State during the weekend held a crucial meeting with all members of the National Assembly from the state.

He disclosed this on his verified X handle on Monday, saying, “Yesterday was a privilege to host our National Assembly members in my temporary office in Calabar.

“Together, we delved into crucial matters vital for the progress of our beloved state.”

A statement signed by Gill Nsa said the meeting was to forge solid ties with the three senators and eight House of Representatives members from the state, some of who are not members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

One of the crucial matters discussed was the crisis in the state House of Assembly where 17 aggrieved lawmakers removed the Speaker, Elvert Ayambem, last week.

It is understood that Otu has pacified the lawmakers as it appears they have gone back on their decision to remove Ayambem, whom they alleged squandered financial resources.

The state Deputy Governor, Peter Odey, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Emmanuel Ironbar, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on National Assembly Matters, Barr Chris Mbu Ogar, also attended the closed door meeting with the National Assembly members.
