Trabzonspor manager, Abdullah Avci, has revealed that the club may not be pursuing a deal for Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu this summer.

He said instead, they will be prioritizing the signing of Wout Weghorst over Onuachu.

Onuachu is also being chased by Saudi Pro-League side, Al-Okhdood.

Trabzonspor’s negotiation with Southampton for Onuachu has not been easy, and Coach Avci’s comment now shows the club is willing to drop the deal.

Weghorst played for Beşiktaş in the 2022/2023 season, before joining Manchester United in the second half of that campaign.

Avci told the media that he is worried that Onuachu travelled with Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations, came back and suffered an injury which kept him away from helping the club.

He said, according to Milliyet, “We could not get enough use out of Onuachu last season.

“He first went to the African Cup with the Nigerian National Team, then he suffered an injury.

“I do not want to face the same problems again.

“For this reason, Weghorst is a better fit for us. If we finalize his transfer, it would be a significant development for us.”
