The National Working Committee, NWC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has urged the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly to swear in 16 APC members adjudged by the Court of Appeal as duly elected lawmakers.
The Court of Appeal declared the 16 APC members as winners of state assembly elections after sacking Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers.
In a resolution reached at the 141st meeting of the APC held at the National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Monday, the NWC frowned on the refusal of the Speaker to swear in the party’s members.
The resolution was signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka.
The party described the action of the Speaker as wrong, undemocratic and violently contemptuous of the authority of the Court of Appeal.
“The meeting denounced the failure or refusal of the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly to swear in 16 APC House Members adjudged by the Court of Appeal as the duly elected members of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
“The intransigence of the Speaker and the Governor of the state in this matter is wrong, undemocratic and violently contemptuous of the authority of the Court of Appeal, the highest court for the determination of election petition matters as it concerns the House of Assembly.
“The NWC urges the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly to swear in the members without further delay in the interest of peace in the good State of Plateau,” the party said in the resolution posted on its X handle on Tuesday.
